Golden Ears Chapter VCCC circle tour 2010

10 cars met at Bruce's Market on Saturday morning; we met 2 more in Mission; for a great drive to Hope for a 'timmies'.  It was here that Richard said goodby and headed back to Maple Ridge.  We then set off again to Manning Park for our 'potty break'. It was there that we decided it was warm enough to put the top down on the convertible. Jim and Mary were already 'topless'. It was a very nice drive into Princeton where we found our hotel and checked in. It was Princeton's 150th anniversary celebrations, so we checked out the music and stopped for lunch.
After lunch we all met in the parking lot for happy hour(s) when Ross's friend showed up and offered us a tour of his garage. Off we went! A detour here and there, but finally we arrived to check out his nicely appointed garage and customized VW.

We finished up the evening at the local pub for supper - Barry & Sharron arrived at around 8:00 and found us still in the pub - good job it was only a short walk from the motel.  Some of the group called it a night, others didn't!  Bruce's wife and daughter had driven in late on Sautrday night, as well as Ron & Meghan who were with the Whymark's at the Gastown Concourse all day.

It was off on Sunday morning after a continental breakfast to meet up with VCCC'rs at the Fair in Merritt, where we had lunch and toured the exhibits. 3 more garage tours - one a wrecking yard with Chrysler products (checked for a horn button for the 37 but no luck) the other two garage's had beautiful chevy's - and then we were on our way again.  After a winding, hilly drive we arrived in Lillooet. Ron & Meghan decided to leave us on the way to Lillooet and head home.  Wayne & Jan and Don & Grace were already there getting ready for our BBQ. We had a super supper, lots of stories and laughter, then off to bed.

Monday morning was overcast and threatening rain. After a continental breakfast for some (and eggs & bacon for others) we headed for Pemberton over the Duffy Lake road. There were patches of gravel, and some of the paved areas were worse than the gravel, but it was a beautiful drive, we stopped to consolidate and found that Dale & Gale were experiencing engine problems. Doug & Judy; Ross & Bev; and Dale & Gale stayed together, the rest of us headed for Pemberton for the museum. When we got there the museum was closed, so went on to Whistler. Wayne & Jan headed back up the road to find the other 3 cars and found that Ross & Bev had brake problems coming down the hill so the 3 cars had stayed at the side of the road until the brakes cooled off. We all met up at Boston Pizza in Whistler for a late lunch.  On the road again - headed for Brittania Mine and a tour, but alas we arrived as they were closing up. We said our goodbyes there and headed for home.

We had a super tour, lots of great company, decent weather - it only rained after we reached North Vancouver - and no mishaps! Dale & Gale and Ross & Bev will have a little work to do on their cars; the rest of us just need to wash and polish!

Boulevard Casino Car Show

The Dodge on display
Originally uploaded by cruisin couple
Well, it was a most beautiful day - sunshine and bright blue skies, with about 200 cars enjoying the day. I got parked in between a Barracuda and a Chevy and initially wasn't very pleased.   It turned out to be a good thing, because everyone noticed the 'oldie' in between the newer cars and I spent the morning telling people about the history of the Dodge. Shaw TV reporter, Emily Laing, came over to chat with me, then asked if she could do an interview. She called over her camera operator and voila! We talked and played with the car for about 1/2 hour. I'm sure when it gets on TV it will only be a few minutes, but was pleased that Emily had singled the Dodge out to do her story.

As you can see behind the cars there was a lineup - this was not to view my car or watch the interview, it was to get a chance to have their picture taken with Hulk Hogan.  He and a group of ex-wrestlers were to appear at the Red Robinson Theatre in the evening.  Of course, the crowd went wild when he showed up with his entourage.

1938 Dodge CoupeI was there for the cars though, and I found a wonderful 1938 Dodge Coupe that has only been on the road for 2 years. Janine is the owner and came over to take pictures of various things on my car, as well as ask lots of questions. We exchanged information and probably will keep in touch. It's always nice to meet another Dodge person, and especially if its a female.

There were 8 of us from the Golden Ears Chapter of the VCCC in attendance, we didn't win the 50/50, some won in the Casino, but Jim Smith with his 1925 Chevy Touring Car took away the Community Choice Award.

It was another great day filled with super cars and friendly people. See you on the road!

Golden Ears Chapter Summer Picnic Meeting

In the summer time the Golden Ears Chapter doesn't meet indoors, unless of course it is raining. Tuesday, July 6, was our scheduled meeting date and the sun was finally out!!! It was a beatuiful evening to have a Picnic.

Along with the 66 Satellite, there was 27 Chevy Touring; a 28 Model A; a 69 Mercury Marauder; a 49 Ford and a 49 Merc, which was a very nice show for the rest of the people at the park.

We met at the Maple Ridge Park on 232nd street with about 30 people enjoying everything from salads to sushi and great conversation.
Ross reminded us of the Kilby Car Show; the Heritage Days Show and the memorial for long time member, Ron Alexander on Friday at Pitt Meadows Airport.

Look for us out and about, happy motoring!

VCCC Golden Ears Chapter registered all the vehicles as they came in, while Early Ford V8 Club, PISRA and VCCC Fraser Valley Chapter helped organize and park the cars.

There were all types of cars in attendance, lots of Avanti's, Metropolitans, Corvettes, and of course the usual Ford, Chevies and Mopars.

Barrie Spring Auto Flea Market - 2010

I visited my family in Ontario this past week . While in Orillia, visiting my brother Walter, the Barrie Auto Flea Market was on. I thought maybe I might find a replacement horn button and parking brake boot for the 1937 Dodge. But no-one could help me. We did have a great time trudging the over 250 acres of parts, cars and memorabilia.

We found loads of beautiful cars, including this red corvette, but there was way too much drool on the windshield, so we didn't buy it!  That's Walter trying to decide if he wanted to drive it home!

Here is my horn button, but unfortunately it was attached to a very nice rodded 38 Dodge.  We couldn't disconnect the battery without creating a disturbance, so was unable to steal it!  We do know that they are out there somewhere, so will have to keep looking.  Or, maybe, this guy has got his duct taped together too!!

There are more pictures posted on Flickr, go and check them out! http://www.flickr.com/photos/46922211@N07/sets/72157624150627309/

Costco's Children's Miracle Network Fundraiser

1937 Dodge & 1938 Ford
Originally uploaded by cruisin couple

I attended the Children's Miracle Network Fundraiser at Costco today. We were supposed to go yesterday, but the rain kept us away. When I got there this morning, Norm Gable and his 1938 Ford were already set up.

Costco was really hopping!! It is estimated that on a normal Sunday 5000 people cross the threshold. Today, it seemed that number may be low.

Booths were set up by entrepeneurs and homeowners, selling their wares, with profits from the sale of the booths going to the Chidren's Miracle Network.

We were glad that we could participate and give the public a couple of beautiful cars to look at while pushing their full baskets back to their vehicles.

An addition to the garage!

I had Don & Scott Robbins of Park Place Garage in Surrey, come over this morning and install a 3x8 overhead rack in the garage. They use Forged Racks which are made by a Canadian company based in Vancouver.
Park Place have transformed garages for Lottery Show Homes, the most recent being the Hometown Heroes Show Home.

Now, Del's wood which needs to dry out, can do so without taking up floor space around the cars.

Next on my list of Garage upgrades is the floor. While Don was here he gave me an estimate for the same beautiful floor that you see in the Show Home pictures .... Maybe next year!

Chariots onTires May Tour 2010

"The tour was one of the best we have been on" was overheard at breakfast on Monday morning!

It was a great tour ... it started off in the sun on Friday afternoon with 4 garage tours. We saw old cars, finished cars, rough but restorables, puppet collections, and had a great time re-uniting with old friends; and finished up that evening with a meet and greet attended by our one and only May Tour Queen (you had to be there!!).

Over 170 cars were in attendance from all over British Columbia and North West Washington. The oldest car was a 1911 Russell Knight 7 Passenger Touring car and the newest was a 1981 Pontiac TransAm, both from Maple Ridge. We had about 20 Orphan Cars which were recognized with a Certificate of Attendance at the Awards Banquet.

Saturday brought overcast skies, some of us travelled to Hayward Lake and the Stave Lake Dam, and had a great time in the hail storm.

Sunday's tour was to Alouette and Pitt Lakes. We stopped at Pitt Lake for lunch, but ended up eating in the car, as the liquid sunshine surrounded us.
Supper (on Saturday and Sunday) was provided by the Hourglass Restaurant and they did a fantastic job of feeding almost 400 people in less than 1/2 hour. The food was out of this world!

A Tea & Fashion show was held on Saturday afternoon after the judging meet. Over 100 people attended and we couldn't keep up with the teapots.

During the judging meet the 1937 Dodge scored enough points to bring home a 2nd place ribbon. Here I am with the car in period costume.

Sunday afternoon found us at the Valve Cover races, where in true spirit one of the teenagers took the valve cover off his car and taped his skateboard onto the bottom with Duct Tape. This was loads of fun. My little Madame Butterfly did not place. Wait until next year!

Monday morning came way too soon. After dismantling all the displays, the stage and the set up, we all gathered in the parking lot to say 'see you next year in Sushwap'.

Madame Butterfly - Valve Cover Racer

Madame Butterfly
Originally uploaded by cruisin couple

I will be participating in the Valve Cover Races on Sunday afternoon at the Maple Ridge Fairgrounds. Come out and watch the competition, it`s loads of fun. Valve Cover Racers are any valve cover with wheels and weights to allow it to coast down a track competing against one other racer - this is very similar to the Kub Kar Racers your children had when they were in Boy Scouts, except the cars are made of the Valve Covers and not of wood.

Madam Butterfly has wheels made of Seat Belt washers, no bearings, and is driven by Momma - from the A&W. This Valve Cover Racer is not fast, its built for endurance - ah! ah! Or, is it 'all show and no go'!?

Vintage Car Club of Canada - Annual May Tour

The 52nd Annual Vintage Car Club of Canada May Tour is being hosted by the Golden Ears Chapter, which draws its membership from Maple Ridge and surrounding area. The event will take place from May 21 to 24, 2010 at the Winter Club (Planet Ice) in Albion.

Over 170 cars are expected to attend, ranging in years from 1911 to 1981. Two tours will take the cars through the north Fraser area; one to Stave Lake Dam and Power House and the other to Alouette and Pitt Lakes. Both tours will leave at approximately 9:30 am and return to the Winter Club in early afternoon. At 2:00pm on Saturday some 30 cars will be judged at the host venue.
